Taylor North

Dive Instructor | EMT | Swift Water Rescue Technician

Driven by courage, guided by purpose — Taylor is on a journey to not only support her community, but also to her dream that is one of the most selfless acts of all.

We sat down with her to uncover the story of a diver, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), and someone who is constantly pushing themselves to be better whilst always helping others along the way.

FEARLESS BY NATURE

Raised on the sunlit shores of San Diego, Taylor North has spent her life in, on, and under the water. A lifelong surfer, athlete, and ocean lover, Taylor’s passion for the outdoors has always gone hand in hand with her calling to serve others. From her early days as a lifeguard to her current roles as an EMT and scuba instructor, she embodies the fearless, purpose-driven spirit that defines every Luminox Everyday Hero.

“I like to challenge myself in every aspect of life — physically, mentally, and emotionally. I know I can make a difference, and this world needs people who aren’t afraid to put their life on the line for others.”

A LIFE DEDICATED TO SERVICE

Some people are born to serve — Taylor is one of them. What began as a simple EMT certification on her bucket list quickly became a lifelong mission. The adrenaline, urgency, and responsibility of emergency response drew her in, and soon she was working on the front lines — as an EMT, rescue professional, and dive instructor guiding new generations underwater.

Her goal: to one day serve as a search and recovery diver, bringing closure to families and dignity to those lost beneath the surface.

“I want to bring light, and peace, where it’s needed most.”

DIVING DEEP INTO ADVENTURE

Taylor’s first dive at Oregon State University changed her life forever. What began as a course in open-water diving evolved into a career built around challenge and discovery. Now a certified PADI Instructor, Dive Master, and Swift Water Rescue Technician, she thrives in the demanding environments most people shy away from. Whether teaching students in icy waters, leading night dives illuminated by bioluminescence, or rescuing those in danger, Taylor stays calm under pressure — a testament to her resilience and her belief that panic never solves problems, above or below the surface.

CALM UNDER PRESSURE

During one advanced diving course in freezing conditions, Taylor faced one of her most challenging moments — a pair of divers went missing during a deep-water exercise. Staying composed and methodical, she managed her team, ensured the safety of her students, and provided medical care when one diver suffered a concussion. Her professionalism and calm leadership under stress reaffirmed why she was made for this work: to stay steady when every second counts.

EVERY SECOND COUNTS

As both a diver and an EMT, Taylor knows that precision and reliability can mean the difference between safety and danger. “Whether you’re monitoring air supply underwater or stabilizing a patient on land, every second matters,” she says. “That’s why I trust my Luminox — it’s never failed me.”

Gifted her first Luminox by her grandfather, Nick North, the Navy SEAL responsible for testing and approving Luminox for the SEAL teams, Taylor’s connection to the brand runs deep. To her, she says “wearing a Luminox is a daily reminder of courage, resilience, and the legacy of those who dedicate their lives to protecting others.”

“Every time I put my watch on, I think of the sacrifice of not only the SEALs, but every personnel in the military.”

THE NORTH STAR OF HEROISM

Taylor’s journey continues as she trains to join the Sheriff’s Academy in Washington, moving closer to her dream role on a search and recovery dive team. For her, adventure and service are inseparable — each mission, each dive, each rescue is another chance to make a difference.

“Helping others is what I was meant to do,” she says. “I want to bring light, and peace — where it’s needed most.” Taylor North is living proof that courage, compassion, and commitment to community is what we need right now.
